A Local’s Guide to Pererenan Beach

Pererenan Beach is a different side of Canggu. While Batu Bolong buzzes with beach clubs and Echo Beach hums with surfers, Pererenan moves at its own rhythm, slower, quieter, and perfect for travelers who like their sunsets without the crowds.

Here’s how we enjoy it, just a 3-minute stroll from Masmara’s front door.

Start Slow: Sunrise by the Shore

If you’re an early riser, this is your time. Mornings here are peaceful, a few local fishermen casting nets, surfers stretching on the sand, and dogs happily chasing waves. Kick off your sandals and walk barefoot; the black volcanic sand is cool at this hour.

Surf or Simply Watch

Pererenan has a loyal surf crowd. If you’re confident in the water, rent a board from one of the small beach shacks and paddle out. If not, order a fresh coconut and watch the locals glide over the waves. It’s just as hypnotic from the shore.

Coffee Break: Local Favorites

By mid-morning, head inland a few minutes for coffee. Our team swears by the cappuccinos at Sensorium and the flat whites at Baked. For something lighter, grab a smoothie bowl at The Shady Shack. All are within a 5–10 minute walk from the sand, and even closer if you’re coming from Masmara.

Afternoons in the Shade

By early afternoon, the sun can be strong. That’s when we retreat to Masmara’s pool, shaded by palms and just as relaxing as the beach, but without the sand in your toes.

Sunset Rituals

Pererenan sunsets are a local secret. The beach fills with families, couples, and friends gathering to watch the sky change color. For the best view, grab a seat on the rocks or wander toward Echo Beach for a slightly higher vantage point.

If you’re hungry, end the day with dinner at Kilo Kitchen Pererenan; Masmara’s own restaurant, where the menu is as good as the sunset views.

Why Pererenan Works for Masmara Guests:

  • It’s quiet, but still connected to Canggu’s energy.
  • Everything — from surf breaks to sunset spots — is walkable.
  • It feels like Bali at its own pace.
